Solar Chain was a team hackathon prototype exploring peer-to-peer trading of surplus solar energy. I collaborated on it as part of an Algorand-based project that placed third at the Algorand Road2Impact Developer Challenge (2024), associated with the Algorand India Summit in Hyderabad.
Motivation#
Residential and small-scale solar generation can produce surplus power. The project explored representing energy trading between participants with blockchain-backed transactions and a web interface.
Components#
Previous project materials describe these parts of the prototype:
- A Flask backend using SQLAlchemy for application data.
- Algorand integration using smart contracts, on TestNet during development.
- Wallet interaction through Pera Wallet.
- Trading and listing workflows in the web application.
- WebSocket communication with Arduino hardware.
- Supporting tooling with Docker and pytest.
Recognition#
Third Place, Algorand Road2Impact Developer Challenge, 2024.
Limitations#
This page will gain a more detailed account of the transaction flow and my specific contributions once those are confirmed against the repository. Until then it describes the project at the level the project materials support.
